Home Remedies For Colds and Sinusitis

adobestock 231028425 Are there any home remedies for colds to help get over my cold quickly? This question is probably one of the most frequently asked in medicine. First, it’s important to understand that the common cold is indeed very common. Even healthy adults can expect to get 2-3 colds annually.

A cold is a viral infection that affects the nose/sinus region and the throat. It may also result in a cough. It is a type of acute sinusitis and symptoms usually last about 10 days. If sinus symptoms progress and worsen beyond 10 days the sinus infection may have become bacterial and require antibiotics at that point.

But, what to do about a cold in the first 7-10 days and decrease its severity?  You can try these home remedies for colds. First, stay well hydrated. Second, take an antihistamine and a decongestant (oral or topical for 3 days) to help with runny nose, sneezing, and stuffiness. Third, consider an analgesic to help with pain, and sore throat. To add anti-inflammatory medications, over-the-counter acetaminophen and ibuprofen can be alternated. Fourth, start rinsing the nose with a saline sinus wash. This will help remove thick secretions and reduce post-nasal drainage. Finally, hot beverages with honey or herbal teas may help with cough.

Taking action to mange your cold symptoms will make them much more bearable and set you on the road to a faster recovery!
